EVOLUTION, A BLIND FAITH Chapter 6

FALLACY #3 -- LIVING THINGS IMPROVE WITH TIME

Another fallacy of evolutionary philosophy is the belief that living things evolve with time. Here we are using the word "evolve" to mean an upward change, a change leading to more complexity. This is really the sense in which evolutionary philosophy defines evolution -- it is not simply any change, but ultimately must be an upward change (see Note 5). The creation is permeated by change, but it is change by way of decay, degradation, and death. We must find evidence of upward change to find the kind of change evolution believes in.

Let's consider some specimens of organisms that were once alive to see if they are any different from their modern descendants. Our question is, has there been any evolutionary change or not? In northern Europe many people were buried in bogs thousands of years ago, and the acidity of the bogs has preserved these people. One of these so-called "bog-men" is the Tollund Man found in Denmark. The Tollund Man is famous because he was completely preserved even though he lived 2000 years ago. His beard stubble is visible. Perhaps this is the finest preservation of any ancient face, yet there is no anatomical evidence of any evolutionary change. In 2000 years man has not perceptibly evolved.

The Graubelle Man is another well preserved bog-man from Denmark. The Graubelle Man dates from about 100 B.C., and again, there is no evidence of evolutionary change. Of course evolutionary philosophy responds to this lack of evidence by saying that 2000 years is not long enough for evolution to occur. But even more to the point, this is exactly what we have been saying here, that even if evolution has been occurring as its advocates claim, it is so slow that we cannot see it within any reasonable time span.

Let's go on to additional examples and ask whether any evidence of evolutionary change is observable from past to present. Several years ago the skeleton of a child was recovered on a construction site in a Florida bog. Its state of preservation was so good the police were alerted that here was a modern homicide victim, until closer examination showed that the age of the child was seven to eight thousand years. (This age was computed using conventional techniques, which often lead to exaggerated ages. A better age estimate would probably be around 3000 years.) Obviously there was no evidence of evolution from then until now.
