EVOLUTION, A BLIND FAITH, Chapter 2

EVOLUTION, A BLIND FAITH Chapter 1

A MODERN RELIGION

Now we are going to consider the idea of evolution. Scripture teaches, of course, that the creation began in perfection and has degraded because of sin, but evolution claims just the reverse -- that nature began in simple chaos and has developed on its own into higher, better forms. Scripture and evolution are therefore mutually exclusive, not compatible. But this is not the whole story, because, as we will see, evolution does not stand scrutiny even on scientific grounds. Evolution is racked with fatal flaws -- scientific fallacies. Yet evolution is believed despite the fact that science does not show it to be true.

It is often claimed that evolution is scientific and that creation is a religion. But a little reflection will show that both positions are really religious or philosophical views. If creation hypothetically occurred, it was a one-time event. It cannot be reproduced in a lab anywhere today using the scientific method. Since it cannot be studied by science, the idea of creation is outside the realm of science.

On the other hand, evolution, contrary to common claims, is also outside the realm of scientific study. Even many of its advocates claim that if it is occurring, it is happening so slowly that, in fact, no one can really observe it in action in the lab today. Like creation, evolution is a philosophical concept; it is a position that one must hold by faith (see Note 1). As stated above, science does not prove evolution, yet evolution continues as a belief despite its scientific fallacies. Ironically, a belief like evolution that is maintained without any real physical evidence is in fact a very strong faith.

We ask then, how can one choose between creation which is a philosophy, and evolution which is a philosophy? As far as science is concerned, the answer must lie in the accuracy with which either philosophy agrees with observed facts about the world we live in. This is the area where the fallacies of evolution become clear. Evolution as a philosophical viewpoint might be very pleasing, but what evolution leads us to expect about the world does not match what we see in the world. In other words, the predictions evolution makes about life do not match real-world data (see Note 2). These predictions of evolution are therefore fallacious. They are wrong.
