DAY SIX -- LAND ANIMALS AND MAN
As we come to day six of the Creation Week we see that Genesis 1:23-25 tell us about the creation of land-dwelling animals. God created "beasts," large animals like deer and elephants. Other creatures dating from day six were the "creeping things," things like insects or lizards that live close to the ground, and cattle (see note 9). There are some exotic beasts that God made on day six of the Creation Week like the tyrannosaurus rex and brontosaurus. Dinosaurs like tyrannosaurus are commonly thought to be somehow evolutionary, but the dinosaurs are just other beasts that God created on day six of the Creation Week. (The reptilian swimmers and flyers as we have seen date from day five.) In fact dinosaurs are no stranger than many creatures still living today. There are insects that make their own light (fire flies) and animals that generate their own electricity (electric eels). The only reason dinosaurs seem so unusual is that we don't see them every day. On day six God finished His creation when He made man and woman. Man is the only creature made in God's image (see Note 10). Man is the only creature who, because he is made in the image of God, has been able to accomplish great technological feats. For example astronauts have landed on the moon. Moon landings, and in fact all science rightly carried out, can do nothing but glorify God because as Romans 1:20 states, God has structured the creation to reveal Himself. There is nothing inherently atheistic or evolutionary about studying God's creation. In fact, we would expect that studying God's creation would lead to a greater understanding of the Creator. God finished His creation in six days and at the end of that time the creation was fully functional. It was complete. Of course the earth as originally created was totally fit for life in every way. In fact the Bible in Genesis 6:4 says that before the Flood there were giants in the earth, and fossil bones do show that some ancient men were quite large. Some fossil human footprints also show that ancient man was sometimes larger than modern man (see Note 11).
