HOW ABOUT A DATE?, Chapter 9

NOTES

1. See the paper "Study of Origins" by J.F. Henry (Chattanooga, TN, Center for Creation Concepts, 1984).

2. For information on why the days of the Creation Week were literal, see the non-technical paper "God Did It in Six Days" by J.F. Henry (Chattanooga, TN, Center for Creation Concepts, 1993). For a technical treatise on the six days of creation, see Studies in Genesis One by Edward J. Young (Presbyterian and Reformed Publishing Co., 1976).

3. For a relatively short discussion of Biblical chronology, see the paper "Biblical Chronology" by J.F. Henry (Chattanooga, TN, Center for Creation Concepts, 1985). For a thorough scholarly exposition, see The Mysterious Numbers of the Hebrew Kings by Edwin R. Thiele (University of Chicago Press, 1951).

A shorter version of Thiele's chronology was later published as Chronology of the Hebrew Kings (Grand Rapids, Zondervan Publishing House, 1977), and the book itself has been published in a revised edition (Zondervan, 1982). Thiele's chronology has become the standard among those who read the Bible as serious history.

4. Some of the non-chronological purposes of the genealogies include the following:

(1) to show God's protection of the Messianic line leading to Jesus Christ;

(2) to indicate the great longevity and vigor of early man, especially in the pre-Flood world;

(3) to demonstrate the fulfillment of the curse in Genesis 3:17 by the phrase "and he died";

(4) to show by the shorter life spans of people after the Flood the tightening grip of sin upon the human body.

5. For a non-technical book dealing with chronology, see It's A Young World After All by P. D. Ackerman (Grand Rapids, Baker Book House, 1986). See also the paper "Geochronology" by J.F. Henry (Chattanooga, TN, Center for Creation Concepts, 1984).

6. Many indicators of youth in the solar system are discussed in Design and Origins in Astronomy, edited by George Mulfinger (Terre Haute, IN, Creation Research Society Books, 1983). See also "Space Age Astronomy Confirms a Recent and Special Creation" by J.F. Henry (Minneapolis, MN, Twin-Cities Creation Conference, 1992), page 88.
