Daniel Lewis' Biography

Daniel Lewis

Daniel Lewis is the younger of two children. He was born in Freiburg, West Germany of American parents who were serving as missionaries. The place of his birth received its name in the Middle Ages, because it was a “Free” city (without taxes imposed by the Barons who ruled it). When he was in elementary school he moved to Pennsylvania, where he lived until he came to Chattanooga to attend college in 1987. In May of 1992 he received his Bachelor Degree from Tennessee Temple University. In May of 2002 he earned his Master of Education Degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His wife is Janet, formerly of Nashville.

Daniel is currently working as the director of the Outside-In after-school program in north Chattanooga. In this program he works with middle school children to improve their academic skills. His duties include tutoring the children in all academic subjects. He specifically works with the children to improve their math, science, and reading skills. His experience working with children in a academic setting gives him a unique perspective on the condition of the schools in District 26.

Politically, Daniel grew up in a Republican family. For a brief while he supported Democrats, but mostly grew up voting Republican. A detailed study of the Constitutional history of Tennessee and the United States of America led him to the conclusion that the agendas of neither of the two parties were Constitutional. Then after college, he finally found his true political home in the Libertarian Party.

As a Libertarian, Daniel Lewis recognizes the blessings that liberty can bring to a nation and a state. Our founding fathers established this country to from a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, and secure the blessings of liberty for themselves and their prosperity (see the Preamble to the 1789 Constitution for the united States of America). Daniel Lewis considers the reasons why our country was founded, as stated in the 1789 Constitution for the united States of America, to be the essential functions of any government.

Michael Badnarik, the 2004 Libertarian Presidential Candidate, once illustrated the role of government by comparing it to a fire. Fires are good and important. As a matter of fact fires are so good and important that we have a special place for them in our homes called a “fireplace”. A fire in a fireplace is good, but when the fire escapes from the fire place this is bad.

Governments are good. As a matter of a fact they are so good that we have a special place in our country for governments called a “constitution”. A government operating within the boundaries of the constitution is good, but when a government escapes from the boundaries set by the constitution this is bad.

If you, like Daniel Lewis are uncomfortable with the idea of the government telling you how live your life and spend your hard earned wages. Then you are the type of person we’d love to have helping out in our campaign, even if you do not live in District 26. Please feel free to make a contribution right now. We are also looking for people who are dedicated to the cause of liberty to join Lewis’s Minute Men, our newly formed corps of dedicated campaign volunteers. And please tell all of your friends that there is a champion of liberty in Hamilton County, Daniel Lewis.
